Costa Rica might be a small country in size, but it surely is a large one when considering its ambitions. Since the 1950s, the Costa Rican government invested considerable amounts of resources into a diverse range of environmental policies. These efforts have paid off in some sense as Costa Rica, according to the New Economics Foundation, today is considered one of the most sustainable, happy and prosperous societies in the world. Despite their ambitious efforts, particularly their decarbonisation policies, because of the global nature of climate change, their territory, corresponding ecosystems and biodiversity are very vulnerable to climate change.

In the course of this forum, we would like to invite you to not only discover the emerging agendas of urban decarbonisation, but also to discover the diverse consequences that climate change can have as we go from the global to the local level.

Through exploring both the ecosystems to protect and the changing dynamics of cities we can understand the real measure of the ideas, solutions and measures necessary to face this climate crisis. So we invite you to also get to know and enjoy the capital San José as well as the wide range of ecotourism experiences  found across the entire country.

San José:

The event venue:

The main events will take place in the “Teatro de la Danza”, which is located in the heart of San José and surrounded by beautiful public spaces and parks. The “Teatro de la Danza” was created in 2005 as a response to the increasing necessity of giving space to independent scene artists and today promotes and attracts spectators of any age.
The “Teatro de la Danza” is being administrated by the “Compañia Nacional de Danza” (CND), which, in turn, is part of the “Teatro Popular Melico Salazar”. The CND uses this space for a wide range of own productions and co-productions with dance groups and dance academies and a vary of institutional activities.
